Have just completed my visit (6 nights) to lovely Villach, nestling in the mountains of southern Austria. My 4th consecutive attendance at the ICL conference,

Villach main street view
co-located at the very comfortable Holiday Inn and adjoining gleaming glass and bright red cladded Convention Centre on the banks of the Drau river.

ICL 2009 venue
Wonderful to catchup with old friends like Steve Wheeler from Plymouth UK, David Guralnick from New York and Andreas Pester from Klagenfurt; and make great new friends like Wolfgang Reinhardt from Germany and Christina Merl from Austria – all of whom contributed or were on the end of many humorous moments. Some varied culinary experiences, including at Dukes (imitation junk American cuisine) Villacher Brauhof, and Becker Bacherei.

In amidst all the social activity – some excellent presentations and workshops also took place.

The ICL conference is leaving Villach for Belgium in 2010 and most likely Salzburg in 2011. Disappointing for many who have discovered the delights and hospitality found in Villach – but – that’s life. Well done Michael Auer on 12 great ICL conferences.

Glad to see this reflection John. It all went by in a flash, that event, and I wish I was going to be there next year for ICL, but unfortunately I won’t. I’ll instead be down in your neck of the woods, speaking at a conference in Brisbane. Maybe we’ll pass in the air? Cheers mate.
Yes – definitely too fast! But another memorable one.
Planning to be in Europe perhaps August through Sept 2010 – may cross paths – not in Brisbane or NZ unfortunately. Cheers.
