Tasmanian dreamtime – touchy toe nails

Well!!   The December 2009 to January 2010 escape ended up being a 4 toe nail hike effort – only hiked a few days too.   I rate my hiking experiences by the number of toe nails that are bruised/crushes and which eventually fall off – or are assisted off the toe.

In 2002, my Appalachian Trail walk (after the first week) resulted in 8 toe nails lost.  (Had to go to a clinic in Gorham, New Hampshire for treatment & antibiotics)    Used to think it was poor choice of footwear – but now believe it’s to do with my style of walking.

Also caught up with a number of Hobart-based friends, and at Melaleuca in the isolated south-west of Tasmania near Port Davey & Bathurst Harbour.

Also spent a few days on the Tasman Peninsula, camped & walked around Fortescue Bay.  A highlight was seeing Fairy Penguins in their nests/caves on a walking trail at Canoe Bay.

I now have two days left on my Telstra contract, which ends on 20 January.   Planning for a break from work – chance to tidy up and organise my life somewhat – before heading to the ICELW 2010 conference in New York in mid-June.
